Young people invited to shape the future of culture in Telford and Wrekin

Young people across Telford and Wrekin are being given the opportunity to play a leading role in shaping the Borough’s cultural future as part of the development of the Council’s new Culture Strategy.
Telford & Wrekin Council is working in partnership with The Roots Programme to ensure that the voices of local communities, particularly young people, are genuinely and authentically reflected in the plans.
Culture means different things to different people, from music, sport and heritage to creative activities, events, and the spaces where people feel connected and welcome. The new strategy aims to capture these experiences and build a shared vision for the future of culture across the borough.
As part of this work, The Roots Programme is hosting a Youth Culture Vision Day for young people aged 13 to 18, offering a relaxed and creative environment where they can explore what culture means to them and share their ideas.
Taking place at Belmont Hall in Wellington on Saturday 13 June 2026, from 11am to 4pm, the free event will include interactive activities, open discussion, and opportunities for young people to have their voices heard. Food will be provided throughout the day, including snacks and pizza, creating a welcoming and informal atmosphere.
Councillor Angela McClements, Telford & Wrekin Council Cabinet Member for Leisure, Tourism, Culture and The Arts said: “We want our Culture Strategy to reflect the real experiences, ideas and ambitions of people across Telford and Wrekin. Young people are at the heart of that future, and it’s vital that we listen to them. This is a great opportunity for them to share what matters most and help shape something that will benefit communities for years to come.”
Alongside the Youth Culture Vision Day, a series of wider Community Conversations will take place on 8 and 9 July in Donnington and Sutton Hill. These sessions are open to all and will offer a similarly informal and welcoming setting, with activities, discussion, and refreshments.
Support with transport can be arranged where needed, and dietary or accessibility requirements can be accommodated.
The Youth Culture Vision Day is free to attend, but places must be booked in advance. To register, fill out the form online.
