A topping out ceremony has been staged to mark new apartments at Station Quarter in Telford Town Centre reaching their highest point.

In a project delivering 189 new homes - 117 are being developed by Nuplace, Telford & Wrekin Council’s wholly owned housing company, along with a further 72 affordable homes being delivered by Legal & General Affordable Homes.

Work is progressing well on the 84 dwelling state-of-the art apartment block which will bring town centre living to Telford Town Centre alongside 33 town houses and maisonettes.

These new homes are being built via two appointed contractors with Bowmer & Kirkland  delivering 1 and 2 bedroom apartments for Nuplace whilst Lovell Partnerships will build a mix of 1, 2 and 3 bed town houses and low rise apartments.

The apartments will be available to reserve from Autumn 2025 and ready for occupation in Spring 2026.

Nuplace successfully secured £4.725m of grant funding from WMCA (West Midlands Combined Authority) to support the delivery of this residential scheme to create mixed tenure housing in the heart of the town centre which is attractive to a range of people looking for high quality housing in a sustainable location, where everything is on their doorstep.

The development provides a mixture of both affordable and private rented homes – the affordable homes are a mixture of 36 rented properties and 36 shared ownership being delivered by L&GAH and the Nuplace properties are being developed for private rent.

Nuplace’s contemporary fully-furnished apartments have been designed specifically with various eco-friendly features to contribute towards the Council’s commitment to tackle climate change.

The apartment building will benefit from ground floor amenity space spilling out onto a terrace, providing residents with an opportunity for work from home hot desking and socialising with great views from the upper floors, all within easy reach of the excellent amenities within Telford town centre.

Collectively this multimillion pound scheme will deliver a mixture of town houses and apartments, delivering town centre living at scale within Telford for the first time and whilst creating a new community at the heart of the town.

Councillor Richard Overton, Telford & Wrekin Council’s Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Highways, Housing and Enforcement, said:

This is an exciting milestone for the apartment blocks which are in a prime spot in Telford Town Centre,

“The development of high quality, sustainable, town centre living at Station Quarter is responding to Telford’s need for one and two bedroom homes in accessible locations, offering a mix of private and affordable rent, and shared ownership options.

“The project highlights our commitment to create better and more affordable homes for residents across the borough.

“We want to create vibrant residential spaces which can become homes for life for residents and make Telford a very attractive place to live and work. It’s all part of our vision to create abetter borough.”

Richard Parker, Mayor of the West Midlands, said

“Developments like Station Quarter provide local people with the safe, warm and affordable housing they so badly need and deserve.

“I’ve seen first hand how building affordable housing can change people’s lives for the better – especially for those forced to wait too long in temporary accommodation.

“That’s why my ‘Homes for Everyone’ priority is focused on unlocking thousands more affordable and social homes for the people and communities that need them most.”

Matt Bower, Bowmer & Kirkland Project Manager, said:

“Reaching the highest point of the apartment building at Station Quarter is an exciting milestone for everyone involved.

“We are delighted to be delivering high-quality, sustainable homes for Nuplace in such a central location and play a major part in developing this area of Telford into a thriving community.

“There have already been many project highlights, from hosting a training exercise on-site for the Shropshire Fire & Rescue team to providing work placements for local college and university students.

“We are passionate about building exceptional spaces whilst providing support and opportunities to the local communities we work within. We’re looking forward to handing over an exceptional scheme next year.”

The residential project is just one part of the Station Quarter project which has already delivered The Quad - a digital skills hub now open for students.

Station Quarter is all part of a wider Investing in Telford and Wrekin programme which will transform other areas of the borough including Oakengates and Wellington.

Investing in Telford and Wrekin is laying foundations for the future, bringing opportunities for people to learn new skills, secure great jobs, enjoy top cultural activities and live in an attractive place they can be proud of.
