Time to quit smoking for good – who will you do it for?

Telford & Wrekin Council have launched its latest health initiative, ‘Crush the Habit’, to encourage residents to embrace healthier lifestyles by quitting smoking. This campaign is designed to inspire individuals to take the important step of stopping smoking, not just for their own health, but for the well-being of their loved ones as well.

Smoking remains a significant public health issue, contributing to numerous preventable diseases and impacting the quality of life for smokers and those around them. Crush the Habit alongside the Healthy Telford Pledge seeks to motivate smokers to quit by highlighting the positive effects their decision can have on family members, friends, and the community.

Through a series of engaging and supportive resources, including personal success stories and motivational messages, the campaign will empower smokers to envision a healthier future. Participants will have access to the free Healthy Lifestyles Stop Smoking appointments, providing personalised support from trained professionals committed to helping individuals achieve their goal of quitting smoking for good.

Cllr Kelly Middleton (Lab), Cabinet Member for Healthier, Safer & Stronger Communities and Partnerships said: "We understand that quitting smoking can be challenging, but with the right support and motivation, it is possible.

“The Healthy Lifestyles team are reassuring and supportive for anyone looking to crush the habit. As well as the free appointments on offer, you become part of the wider Healthy Telford community where you can speak to people going through similar experiences and work together to become healthier.

“Our 'Do It For' campaign encourages residents to consider the positive impact quitting can have on their loved ones and to take that important step towards a healthier lifestyle."

In addition to the current service offer from Healthy Lifestyles, the Stop Smoking advisor team is expanding to offer more appointments including ones out in the community at in person clinics. Doing so will give residents more opportunities to be supported with the right advisor in the location that works for them.

This work is part of Telford & Wrekin Council’s ‘20 pledges in 20 weeks’ campaign which will see the local authority deliver 20 actions on the things that matter most to local people during the first 20 weeks following Cllr Lee’s Carter’s appointment as Leader on 18 July. The pledges reinforce the council’s ongoing commitment to protect, care and invest to create a better borough.
