Thousands of children and young people enjoyed a happy, healthy and active summer across Telford and Wrekin
Children and young people across Telford and Wrekin made the most of their summer holidays thanks to the Happy Healthy Active Holidays (HHAH) programme.
The programme, co-ordinated by Telford & Wrekin Council, provided holiday activities for children and young people, helping them stay active, learn new skills and enjoy nutritious meals throughout the school holidays.
This summer, 10,000 places were booked on HHAH activities delivered by 37 providers across 67 sites through 558 individual events located across the Borough. Through 496 sessions, children and young people enjoyed a wide range of activities, including sports, baking, arts and crafts and forest school. The sessions gave children and young people opportunities to have fun, build confidence, develop new skills and make new friends throughout the holidays.
Many activities were fully accessible and designed to support children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), helping ensure as many families as possible could benefit from the programme.
Councillor Shirley Reynolds, Cabinet Member for Children and Young People, Education, Employment and Skills, said: "It was wonderful to visit some of this year's Happy Healthy Active Holidays sessions and see so many children and young people having fun, learning new skills and making new friends.
"The programme gave children the opportunity to stay active, try a wide range of activities and enjoy nutritious meals in a fun, safe and supportive environment throughout the summer holidays. It has been a chance for children to have fun, try something new, and enjoy different experiences whilst also offering parents and carers a little extra support along the way.
"I would like to thank all of the providers, staff and partners who helped deliver such a varied programme across the Borough. Their hard work and dedication made a real difference to local children, young people and families over the summer."
The programme supports the Council's vision for every child to have the best start in life, ensuring they are healthy, safe, heard and happy.
