NHS England confirmed the decision following a review that recognised the Trust has delivered substantial, sustained and demonstrable improvements across finance, performance and governance. SaTH, which runs the Princess Royal Hospital in Telford and the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital, has been in special measures since November 2018.

The Council recognises the hard work of SaTH staff, trust leadership and system partners in achieving this outcome, and looks forward to continued progress that delivers progressively better care for Telford and Wrekin residents and all patients the Trust supports.

Councillor Lee Carter, Leader of Telford & Wrekin Council, said: “This is welcome news for the people of Telford and Wrekin. Exiting special measures is not a finishing line but it is evidence that the foundations for improvement are in place, and that is something we should acknowledge.

“Our residents really do need to feel this improvement though, as they depend on SaTH for some of the most important moments of their lives, and they deserve a hospital trust that is continually improving .

“We also applaud the support that the Government is giving the NHS and continue to look forward to working with SaTH to ensure it builds on this progress.

“Wherever we can, we will also hold other health partners to account.”
