Telford & Wrekin Council has issued a £650 Fixed Penalty Notice (FPN) following a fly‑tipping offence involving electrical waste in Randlay.

A male was captured on CCTV fly‑tipping a box containing an air fryer next to residential red top bins at Boulton Grange, Randlay.

During the investigation, officers were able to identify the individual from evidence found on the cardboard box containing the item.

The individual claimed they had left the item for refuse crews to collect. However, electrical items cannot be disposed of as part of general household waste and must be taken to an appropriate recycling facility.

Following the investigation, a £650 Fixed Penalty Notice was issued for fly‑tipping, which has now been paid at the early payment rate.

Councillor Richard Overton Deputy Leader, Cabinet responsibility for Highways, Housing and Enforcement said: “There is no excuse for leaving waste beside bins and expecting it to be collected. Electrical items such as air fryers cannot go in general waste and must be disposed of responsibly.

“Residents have a responsibility to understand how to dispose of their waste correctly – not knowing the rules around electrical items is not an excuse. This case shows how we use CCTV and detailed investigations to trace offenders and take action. We will continue to take a zero‑tolerance approach to fly‑tipping and hold offenders accountable."

Residents are reminded that there are legal and convenient ways to dispose of waste:

  • Use your household waste and recycling collections correctly.
  • Take electrical items and larger waste to the Council’s Household Recycling Centres at Hortonwood and Halesfield.
  • Arrange a bulky waste collection if needed.
  • Never leave items next to bins – this is fly‑tipping.
  • Report fly‑tipping online at telford.gov.uk/flytipping or call 01952 388 800.

This case reflects Telford & Wrekin Council’s continued commitment to tackling environmental crime and keeping communities clean, safe and welcoming for all.
