Telford & Wrekin backs council tax discount for Special Constables
Telford & Wrekin Council is pleased to be working alongside John Campion, Police and Crime Commissioner for West Mercia, to support a council tax discount scheme recognising the invaluable contribution of Special Constables across West Mercia.
Under the scheme, Special Constables who volunteer more than 200 hours each year can receive a 25 per cent reduction on their council tax bill, recognising the vital role they play in helping to keep communities safe.
The initiative acknowledges the thousands of hours volunteer officers dedicate to supporting frontline policing and protecting local communities.
Telford & Wrekin Council has confirmed its support for the scheme, enabling eligible Special Constables living within the borough to benefit from the reduction.
Councillor Lee Carter, Leader of Telford & Wrekin Council, said: “Special Constables make a real difference to our communities, giving up their own time to help keep people safe and support local policing. We are proud to be working alongside Police and Crime Commissioner John Campion to support this scheme, which recognises the dedication and commitment of volunteers who go above and beyond in service to others.
“Following a positive meeting, we agreed to continue working together to recognise and support the valuable role Special Constables play across our borough.
“This council tax reduction is a meaningful way of thanking those who dedicate hundreds of hours each year to supporting local policing. Their commitment helps make Telford & Wrekin a safer place for everyone, and we are delighted to play our part in recognising that contribution."
Police and Crime Commissioner John Campion said: “Special Constables give up their own time to support policing and make a real difference in communities across West Mercia. Their dedication, professionalism and commitment deserve recognition.

Special Constables are volunteer police officers who support West Mercia Police in a variety of roles, helping to prevent crime, provide reassurance to residents and respond to incidents across the force area.
The council tax discount scheme recognises the significant contribution these volunteers make to keeping communities safe and reflects the shared commitment of Telford & Wrekin Council and the Police and Crime Commissioner to supporting those who serve the public.
