Officially opened by Her Majesty the Queen Consort on 14 March 2023, Telford’s Veteran Trail in Telford Town Park was created to celebrate veterans’ service and dedication to the UK, providing a lasting tribute for veterans, serving forces, their families, and loved ones, and continues to honour veterans and serving personnel through a series of personalised plaques.

While the Trail also provides a place to remember those who are no longer with us, its main focus is on recognising and celebrating the service of veterans who have served and are still living today, highlighting their contribution to the armed forces and the community.

The Trail allows individuals to sponsor plaques as personal acknowledgments of military service, making it both a place for remembrance and a focal point for community reflection.

Operated as a charity, Telford’s Veteran Trail supports families, raises awareness of veterans’ contributions, and promotes welfare initiatives linked to the Armed Forces community. It also plays a role in fundraising for local veterans’ charities, including those that offer welfare and financial support.

Members of the public can participate in several ways, including sponsoring a personalised plaque to commemorate a loved one’s service along the Trail, or donating to help maintain the Trail and support local veterans’ charities.

To support increased public understanding of the Trail’s purpose and history, a new interpretation sign has now been installed. This new feature helps visitors learn more about how the Trail came to be, who it honours, and how they can get involved.

Councillor Paul Davis, Telford & Wrekin Council’s Cabinet Member with responsibility for the Armed Forces, said:

“As Telford’s Veteran Trail marks its third anniversary, its purpose remains steadfast: honouring the service and dedication of today’s veterans, and ensuring their stories are preserved for generations to come. The introduction of new signage, combined with ongoing community involvement and support, has only strengthened the Trail’s significance.

“It’s rewarding to witness how this local landmark continues to flourish within Telford Town Park, serving as a powerful tribute to our heroes and a fitting focal point for our collective remembrance and appreciation.”

Erica Hanson, Chair of Telford’s Veteran Trail, added:

“Being part of the Telford Veteran Trail means a great deal to me. This information board will help more people understand what it represents and in get involved. Thank you to Telford & Wrekin Council for helping bring this to life”
