Telford Park School expansion receives national seal of approval
The expansion of Telford Park School in Stirchley has received a national seal of approval from the Secretary of State for Education.
The Rt Hon Bridget Phillipson MP visited the school on Grange Avenue last week to see the progress which is being made as part of a wider education visit to the Borough organised by Telford MP Shaun Davies.
During the visit she met with Headteacher Aimee Huntington who outlined the school’s ongoing improvement journey and expansion project being delivered by Telford & Wrekin Council and constructed by local contractor Pave Aways.
The construction project will provide 300 extra places over the next five years and increase the school’s capacity to 900 students.
Phase Two works, which are now well underway, include the construction of a new two-storey building at the site which will provide eight new classrooms, circulation space, toilets and an office.
The building, which is set to be completed by September 2026, will also incorporate solar panels and enhanced insulation to deliver a high level of environmental performance.
Work completed so far in the new two-storey block includes the installation of stairways and flooring.
So far, the school has already accommodated an additional 60 Year 7 pupils since September 2025 after Phase One of the expansion project was completed.
Telford & Wrekin Council is investing into the project as part of the Secondary School Expansion Programme 2025–2026 which ensures there are sufficient school places across the Borough.
The Council has worked closely with schools, academies, and Trusts, including Amethyst Academies Trust, to explore these opportunities for expansion.
By increasing its capacity, Telford Park School aims to continue its mission of providing exceptional education and nurturing environments for more children in the community.
The Secretary of State’s visit to the Borough brought together leaders from schools, further education and higher education to highlight Telford’s education journey, celebrate the work of local teachers and staff and discuss how national education policy can better support pupils, teachers and families across Telford.
Councillor Shirley Reynolds, Telford & Wrekin Council’s Cabinet Member for Children, Young People, Education, Employment & Skills, said:
“We were delighted that the Secretary of State visited Telford Park School as part of a wider educational visit to Telford to see how we are investing heavily in schools across the Borough, expanding schools’ capacity by hundreds of places.
“The expansion of Telford Park School will cater for the demand from people living locally and support the school’s continued growth and is in response to the growing demand for high-quality educational facilities in the area.
“Education is the cornerstone of a vibrant community. By investing in our schools, we are investing in our future.
“As more people are choosing Telford and Wrekin as a place to live and raise a family, we are firmly committed to continue this investment making our Borough a better place to live, learn, work and socialise.
“We want to create hundreds more school places to ensure every local child and young person can attend a local school and benefit from modern facilities.”
Aimee Huntington, Headteacher at Telford Park School, said:
“We are incredibly proud to see our school’s expansion recognised at a national level.
“This project is not just about increasing capacity, it’s about creating opportunities for more young people to thrive in a nurturing, ambitious environment.
“Our staff, students, and families have worked together to drive improvement and foster a culture of belonging and achievement.
“With the support of Telford & Wrekin Council and Amethyst Academies Trust, we are committed to delivering exceptional education and ensuring every child has access to modern, inspiring facilities. The future for Telford Park School is brighter than ever.”
