Telford Krazy Races soapbox derby off to a flying start – team spaces closing soon!

Just four weeks ago, Telford & Wrekin Council announced that the UK’s largest touring soapbox derby, Krazy Races, will be coming to Telford for the very first time on Sunday 12 July 2026, as part of the Council’s summer events line-up.

Since the announcement, team spaces have been flying off the shelves. Locals, including friends, families, colleges, charities, and businesses of all sizes, have been quick to sign up, with over half of the 40 available team spots already taken. Organisers anticipate entries will close in just a matter of weeks, urging brave teams to secure their spot before it’s too late.

Krazy Races is a free-to-attend, award-winning event promising a day of wild, wacky racing, inventive soapbox designs, and fantastic family fun, all while raising vital funds for local charities. With a track record of huge success in towns and cities across the UK, Krazy Races has attracted over 250,000 visitors nationwide, with previous events featuring celebrity participants and even a special Blue Peter episode showcasing the chaos and creativity of the races.

Now it’s Telford’s turn. Organisers are on the lookout for up to 40 local teams, including businesses, charities, community groups, and families, to design, build, and race their handcrafted soapboxes down a thrilling downhill course packed with ramps, obstacles, and chicanes.

Spectators can enjoy a vibrant event village alongside the races, with live performances, local food and drink, and family entertainment adding to the festival atmosphere.

Councillor Angela McClements, Telford & Wrekin Council’s Cabinet Member for Leisure, Tourism, Culture and the Arts, said:

“We are very excited to add this new event to the Telford & Wrekin Events 2026 event programme and to be working with Krazy Races. A great event for all to get involved with, whether that is entering a team or coming along to watch all the fun! This promises to be a fantastic family fun day out and an exciting edition to the Council’s events programme”

Danny Scoffin, Head of Brand & Strategic Development for Krazy Races, added:

“Coming from Telford, I knew the event would be popular, but the speed at which teams have signed up has truly blown me away. The support from the community has been incredible. Thanks to Telford & Wrekin Council for helping us bring Krazy Races to my hometown.
With team spaces filling fast, I’d encourage anyone thinking about entering to do so before we hit 40 teams, which won’t be far off. Why not get your team together and give the gift of Krazy this Christmas?”
