Telford Krazy Races fundraising success boosts Sunflower Appeal backed by council's £250,000 pledge
Local charities have received a much-needed funding boost, after Telford’s first ever Krazy Races event raised over £5,000 for good causes, with £1,183 of that supporting Lingen Davies Cancer Support’s Sunflower Appeal.
Around 7,000 people attended the free event at Telford Town Park on Sunday 12 July, demonstrating strong community support for the appeal, which aims to raise £5 million towards the development of the new Lingen Davies Cancer Centre at Princess Royal Hospital.
The Telford Krazy Races event welcomed 26 teams and thousands of spectators for a day of family entertainment, with funds raised benefiting local causes and supporting the life-changing work of Lingen Davies Cancer Support.
Councillor Angela McClements, Telford & Wrekin Council Cabinet Member for Culture, Tourism and Leisure, said: "Krazy Races was far more than a fantastic day of entertainment for residents and visitors. It has helped raise valuable funds for local charities and, importantly, generated further support for the Lingen Davies Sunflower Appeal."
"The Council has pledged £250,000 in match funding because we recognise how important it is to improve cancer services for local people. Seeing thousands of residents come together and help raise £5,000 through this inaugural event shows the strength of support that exists across our borough for bringing more cancer treatment and care closer to home."
