With just a few days to go until Krazy Races arrives in Telford Town Park, excitement is building for what promises to be a spectacular day of free high-energy racing, creativity and family-friendly fun.
Taking place on Sunday 12 July 2026, the award-winning soapbox derby will see teams from across the region take on a thrilling downhill course in their handmade karts, cheered on by thousands of spectators. The event will also raise vital funds for Lingen Davies Cancer Support, the official charity partner for Krazy Races Telford.
To celebrate Krazy Races coming to Telford for the first time, organisers have also managed to secure a special Battle of Britain Memorial Flypast as part of the day’s celebrations.
The flypast will feature an aircraft from the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight, with the flight confirmed by the RAF (subject to weather conditions) for 1pm .
The Battle of Britain Memorial Flight is renowned for preserving some of the RAF’s most iconic historic aircraft and honouring the legacy of those who served during the Second World War. Whether it’s a Spitfire, Hurricane or Dakota, the flypast is set to be one of the standout moments of the day.
Krazy Races, one of the UK’s largest touring soapbox events, brings together businesses, community groups and charities to design, build and race unique carts, while delivering a fun-packed day of entertainment, food and activities for all ages.
This year’s event will support the Lingen Davies Sunflower Appeal, which aims to raise £5 million to develop a dedicated cancer treatment centre at Princess Royal Hospital in Telford, helping more people access care closer to home.
Telford & Wrekin Council has also pledged £250,000 in match funding to help boost the appeal, supporting efforts to reach this ambitious target and deliver improved cancer services for local patients.
Councillor Angela McClements, Telford & Wrekin Council Cabinet Member for Culture, Tourism and Leisure, said: “Supporting Lingen Davies Cancer Support and the Sunflower Appeal is something we are incredibly proud of as a Council. Our £250,000 match funding pledge reflects our commitment to improving cancer care for our residents and helping bring treatment closer to home.
Sarah Belcher, Founder of Krazy Races, said: “Being local to the Telford area, it’s a real honour to be bringing Krazy Races here for the first time. I’ve worked with Telford & Wrekin Council in a past life on some of their iconic events, so to be returning several years later with an event that has brought joy to thousands of people across the country is incredibly special.
“We want to put on record our thanks to the amazing team at Telford & Wrekin Council for inviting us to Telford and supporting us every step of the way. Their enthusiasm, commitment and partnership have helped make this event possible, and we can’t wait to see the community come together for what promises to be a fantastic day.”
Claire Purcell, Head of Community Fundraising for Lingen Davies Cancer Support, said: "The Sunflower Appeal is set to fund the development of the Lingen Davies Cancer Centre at Telford's Princess Royal Hospital by 2029. With the support of our community through events like these, we know we will achieve our £5million target to double chemotherapy capacity and bring excellent cancer care closer to home.
"We are incredibly grateful to the Krazy Races team and Telford & Wrekin Council for nominating us as the chosen charity for this spectacular event. Bring on race day!"
With 26 teams taking on the track nestled in the heart of Telford Town Park, residents are encouraged to come along to the free event, cheer on the racers and support an important local cause. The event starts from 10.45am.
