The event brought together businesses from across the borough to explore how integrating social value into Environmental, Social, and Governance strategies can drive meaningful change and long-term success.

Chaired by Andy Whyle, Deputy Chair of TSEC, the session highlighted how Telford businesses are leading the way in embedding social value into their operations, and why this matters more than ever.

Andy said: “Our goal with TSEC has always been to bring businesses together to share knowledge and create collective momentum. Sustainability is not just about carbon it’s about people, places, and long-term prosperity. Events like this, in collaboration with the council, give us the space to learn from one another and move forward together.”

Attendees heard real-world insights from local businesses including Detertech, and McPhillips, who shared how their organisations are putting social value into practice from supporting community initiatives and local employment to shaping inclusive workplace cultures.

Amanda Campbell from Sustainability West Midlands delivered a keynote presentation on how to unlock the full potential of Environmental, Social and Governance and meet growing expectations from investors, customers, and procurement frameworks.

The event also connected with the wider Telford Together initiative, led by Telford & Wrekin Council, which is strengthening partnerships between local employers and schools. Through shared modules, workplace engagement and career interventions, the programme ensures that students in the borough are better equipped with the skills and experiences they need to thrive in the future workforce, creating a talent pipeline for Telford businesses.

Councillor Carolyn Healy, Telford & Wrekin Council Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods, Planning and Sustainability, said: “TSEC is proving to be a powerful force for good connecting businesses, driving innovation, and aligning our shared values. We know that social value and sustainability go hand in hand, and it’s fantastic to see Telford and Wrekin businesses stepping up, not just for the environment, but for our communities too.”

Councillor Ollie Vickers, Telford & Wrekin Council Cabinet Member for Economy, added: “Sustainability is a major driver of future economic success. By embedding environmental principles and social value into their strategy, our businesses are making Telford and Wrekin a more competitive, responsible and future-ready place to invest.”
