Telford businesses gain valuable insights at Procurement and Social Value Workshop
Businesses from across Telford joined a procurement and social value workshop designed to help them strengthen bids and better understand what buyers look for when awarding contracts.
The session, delivered by the business support team at Telford and Wrekin Council in partnership with Shropshire Chamber of Commerce, offered practical guidance designed to support local businesses in becoming tender-ready and understanding the role of social value in procurement. Attendees also took part in a Q&A, which gave them the chance to connect directly with buyers looking to expand their supply chains and build meaningful relationships that drive long-term success.
A total of 33 businesses attended the workshop, gaining practical insights to boost their chances of winning contracts, supporting growth and identifying opportunities. Feedback from the event highlighted how useful it was in breaking down the process and giving businesses more confidence when preparing bids.
Councillor Ollie Vickers, Cabinet Member for Economy and Transport, said:
“This workshop was a valuable opportunity for businesses to gain the knowledge and confidence they need to compete for contracts. We’re proud to work with partners who share our commitment to supporting business growth across the Borough.”
Kayleigh Parsons, Managing Director at Above & Beyond Travel, said:
“The procurement event was genuinely useful for me. It gave a clear insight into what larger companies are actually looking for, and the overview of the central digital platform was a game changer. The conversations around how AI can support tendering and the practical advice on building social value into bids were especially helpful. I came away with a much better understanding of how to position my business for future opportunities.”
Sarah Jones, Marketing Coordinator at Paveway building contractors, said:
“A really useful session highlighting the importance of transparency, safety and meaningful social value in procurement. We’re proud that Pave Aways already embeds this approach, and it was great to explore new, innovative ways we can continue supporting local economic growth.”
