The family‑friendly celebration marked the first Council led event of the year, welcoming people of all ages to enjoy a full programme celebrating spring and St George’s Day in one of the Borough’s most popular outdoor spaces.
The event proved a fantastic success, attracting around 6,500 visitors and creating a vibrant atmosphere across the day. The combination of great weather, engaging entertainment and a strong community turnout made the celebration a memorable day for all involved.
Throughout the day, visitors were able to enjoy a range of activities and entertainment, with the event reinforcing the Council’s commitment to providing accessible, free events that bring communities together in shared public spaces.
Councillor Angela McClements, Telford & Wrekin Council Cabinet Member for Leisure, Culture & The Arts, said: “It’s been fantastic to see residents and visitors coming together to celebrate St George’s Day and to mark the first of our events for 2026.
“Days like Saturday are about pride in our heritage, enjoying our local culture, and creating opportunities for people of all ages to connect with one another.
“This event sets the tone for what we want to achieve throughout the year – vibrant and inclusive celebrations that showcase the very best of Telford and Wrekin and support our ongoing commitment to leisure, culture and the arts in our communities.”
Feedback from attendees highlighted: “A fantastic, well‑organised day with a great atmosphere. The beautiful weather, family entertainment and strong community spirit made it a truly enjoyable celebration for everyone.”
Spring Into St George’s Day marks the start of a packed programme of events running from April through to December, taking place at parks, heritage sites and venues across Telford and Wrekin.
The 2026 programme includes returning favourites such as the Armed Forces Family Fun Day, Telford Balloon Fiesta and Festive Gardens, alongside new additions including Embers Fire Festival in Ironbridge and Krazy Races at Telford Town Park.
The celebrations continue with Embers Fire Festival, taking place from 11am to 9pm on 2 to 3 May 2026, a vibrant event where fire, food and music come together, featuring live fire cooking from world‑class pit masters, top BBQ vendors, live music, DJs and family‑friendly entertainment in the heart of Ironbridge Gorge.
