Shining a light on adoption journeys: National Adoption Week 2024
During National Adoption Week (October 21 to 27, 2024), Telford & Wrekin Council is proud to highlight the extraordinary journeys and the life changing differences that adoption provides to families and communities.
The week is seeking to raise awareness of the pressing need for prospective adopters to consider welcoming sibling groups, more boys, and those open to early permanence placements. These actions are vital in ensuring that every child has access to a stable, loving home, providing the nurturing environment they deserve.
Over National Adoption Week, councils nationwide are showcasing that adoptive families come in all forms, reflecting the rich diversity of our communities. The journeys of adoption are as varied as the families themselves, each enriched by the people involved along the way. From birth families and foster carers to social workers, friends, and extended relatives, a wide array of individuals contribute to the lifelong journey of adoption.
Councillor Shirley Reynolds, Cabinet Member for Children, Young People, Education, Employment & Skills, said: "National Adoption Week is a vital opportunity to reflect on the incredible journeys of adoptive families and the essential role they play in our communities.
“We are dedicated to supporting and raising awareness about the need for adopters willing to embrace sibling groups, male adopters, and those open to early permanence placements.
“Every child deserves a loving and supportive home, and together we can make that happen.
“By highlighting the unique and ongoing journeys of adoptive families, National Adoption Week 2024 aims to foster greater awareness and understanding of what modern adoption involves. Join us in celebrating the remarkable stories that define the journey to family.”
