Schoolchildren across Telford & Wrekin get World Cup fever with themed menus on England match days.
Schoolchildren across Telford and Wrekin are getting a taste of the FIFA World Cup this summer, thanks to a range of themed activities organised by Let’s Dine, the Council’s school catering service.
To mark the tournament taking place in the USA, Mexico and Canada, Let’s Dine has introduced football-themed menu options in schools, giving pupils the chance to enjoy fun, World Cup-inspired meals each day England play a match during the tournament. Alongside the themed dishes, children can also enjoy special sweet treats as part of the celebrations.
Adding to the excitement, Let’s Dine has launched a ‘Design a Football’ competition for primary school pupils, encouraging young football fans and budding designers to get creative and show their support for England.
Pupils are invited to design a bold, colourful match football for a chance to win a range of prizes. School-level winners from each participating school will receive a Foot Golf family ticket voucher. All the school winners will then be part of the main draw, where a judging panel will pick an overall winner to receive an age-appropriate tablet as the main prize with two further runners up prizes of a £50 book voucher and choice of leisure vouchers from Telford & Wrekin Leisure.
Councillor Shirley Reynolds, Cabinet Member for Children, Young People, Education, Employment and Skills, said:
“It’s fantastic to see children across Telford and Wrekin getting excited about the World Cup and showing their support for England.
These activities are a great way to bring pupils together, encourage creativity and make mealtimes even more enjoyable. We’re really pleased to see so many schools taking part in the ‘Design a Football’ competition and can’t wait to see the imaginative designs our young people come up with.”
The football-themed menu has been in schools each day there was an England match during the group stages, their knock-out game against DR Congo last Wednesday and it will be in place on Monday after the team will have played Mexico in the last 16.

Entries for design competition must be submitted by 10 July 2026, before the winning designs are announced before the end of term.
Come on England.
