Telford & Wrekin Council has outlined a full programme of things to do, with events taking place every week, many for free.

Kicking off the summer of fun, is the popular Urban Games, which returns with free, sports and activities for children aged up to 16.

Professional coaches will lead sessions including football, cricket, cycling, netball. table tennis, wrestling and much more.

Telford Aerial Adventure will also be offering free Urban Games sessions for children on its high ropes course, including the climbing wall and free fall experience, every Wednesday at the town park.

For the youngest adventurers, Wild Telford sessions are specially designed for babies and toddlers. Join the Shropshire Wildlife Trust for nature-themed mornings filled with trails and treasure hunts at beautiful locations across the Borough.

There’s no need to book in advance, just turn up and have fun. Full details available at www.telford.gov.uk/urbangames

Also returning this summer is the Happy, Healthy, Active Holiday scheme. Hundreds of free events and activities are available for eligible children and young people (those on income related free school meals).

Running from Saturday 19 July to Sunday 31 August, the summer programme includes more than 100 sessions across the borough. Activities range from forest adventures, football camps to robotics, coding, crafts, art workshops, and more.

Happy, Healthy, Active Holiday sessions are free but must be booked in advance via https://hhah.telford.gov.uk/

Finally, there’s the great value £2 holiday activity programme at leisure centres. Many activities, including tobogganing, fun and floats, tots donuts and soft play, are just £2 and can be booked online in advance.

Councillor Lee Carter, Leader of Telford & Wrekin Council, said:

“We’ve got summer covered, with hundreds of free or low-cost events and activities exclusively for our Borough’s children and young people – all whilst still offering the lowest Council Tax in the Midlands.

“With such a variety of events taking place, there should be something to suit all ages and interests to help keep boredom at bay and parents’ pockets full.

“The fun doesn’t stop there though. We’ve got great parks and open spaces for families to explore this summer, and libraries will be hosting the annual summer holiday reading challenge, to get kids reading and visiting their local library.

“That’s not forgetting our 10 by 10 offer too. With all the activities taking place, there will be lots of opportunities to complete one or more of our 10 by 10 challenges.

“This week, we proudly shared our vision for a Child Friendly Telford and Wrekin - a commitment to placing children and young people at the heart of everything we do. Our vibrant summer programme of events brings this vision to life, offering opportunities for fun, learning, and connection across our communities.”
