With investment from Telford & Wrekin Council, work to expand Lawley Village Academy and provide an extra 210 school places, completed in last year’s autumn term.

This has allowed the school, which is part of the REAch2 Academy Trust, to go from a one form entry to two form entry to help meet the demands of the growing population within its catchment area.

To celebrate the completion of the project, guests were invited to enjoy a tour of the newly expanded school, which includes six new classrooms, a SEN support room, nurture space and a nursery class.

Pupils and staff were also invited to a special assembly and a ribbon was cut to mark the occasion.

Councillor Shirley Reynolds (Lab), Cabinet Member for Children, Young People, Education, Employment and Skills, said:

“As a Council we are committed to providing hundreds of new school places as we look to meet the demands of our growing population, as more people are choosing Telford and Wrekin as a place to live and raise a family, we are firmly committed to continuing this investment.

“At Lawley Village Academy, the expansion has helped future-proof the school and provide quality facilities for both staff and pupils.

“We have a number of other school expansion projects underway and have cemented our commitment to pursue this project with a further £45.2million earmarked in our proposed budget, which is currently out for consultation.

Education is the cornerstone of a vibrant community. By investing in our schools, we are investing in our future.”

Cathie Paine, CEO of REAch2 Academy Trust, said:
“Our commitment to providing great schools for local communities is reflected in the expansion of Lawley Village Academy. We are thrilled to be extending our provision of a great education for children and offering wider support for families as the school doubles in size.”

Claire Freestone, Headteacher at Lawley Village Academy, added:
“This expansion has been transformative for our school community. The additional space and modern facilities mean we can offer an even better learning environment for our pupils, ensuring they have the best possible start to their education. We’re excited to welcome even more families into our school community.”

Telford & Wrekin Council’s 2025/26 budget proposals continue to protect, care and invest in high-quality services whilst maintaining the lowest rate of Council Tax in the Midlands.

The proposed additional investment of £45.2m in schools, funded through a combination of government grant and developer contributions, is part of an overall budget proposal which will also see £365m invested in a wide range of service areas, helping to create jobs, homes, transport improvements and boost town centres.
