Resurfacing works at Ketley Brook roundabout kicks off.

Telford & Wrekin Council has started a programme of essential night‑time resurfacing works at Ketley Brook Roundabout.

Published on: 29 April 2026

Delivered in three phases – the first is now complete - the works will upgrade road surfaces and markings across one of the borough’s busiest junctions while minimising daytime disruption.

The project is part of a major programme of road improvements planned for 2026, focused on safer streets and better journeys across the borough, supported by £91 million of funding.

Work is taking place overnight between 7pm and 5am, ensuring the roundabout remains operational with lane restrictions during daytime hours.

Councillor Richard Overton, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Highways, Housing and Enforcement, said: “These essential works will deliver a safer, smoother and more durable surface for all road users. Years of heavy traffic, wear and tear and repeated pothole damage have left the road surface in poor condition, making full resurfacing necessary. Completing the work overnight allows us to minimise disruption while investing in one of the key gateways to the borough.

“This project is part of our wider commitment to protect, care and invest, renewing ageing infrastructure, improving safety and reducing the need for repeated reactive pothole repairs. Once completed, Ketley Brook will benefit from a modern, high‑quality surface and clearer road markings, improving journeys across Telford and Wrekin for years to come.”

The carriageway surface across the Ketley Brook interchange has significantly deteriorated over the last decade. High‑friction surfacing has worn away, potholes have formed due to heavy traffic and weathering, and multiple emergency repairs have been required over the winter months. This pattern of deterioration reflects the pressures facing the borough’s ageing New Town‑era infrastructure and highlights the need for full‑scale resurfacing.

To address these issues, the interchange will be resurfaced in sections. All road markings will be renewed, providing clearer lane guidance and safer navigation. Once complete, more than 12,000m² of carriageway will benefit from a new surface and modern lining.

Much of Telford’s highways infrastructure, built rapidly during the New Town era of the 1960s and 70s, is now reaching the end of its original design life. As a result, key structures, junctions and commuter routes across the borough are undergoing targeted renewal to ensure long‑term safety and performance.
