Residents invited to share views on Youth Strategy

In recent months, the Council has worked with young people, youth professionals and community partners to understand what matters most to children and young people across the Borough. Through workshops, surveys and focus groups, more than 100 young people shared their experiences, challenges and priorities.

This feedback has shaped the draft strategy, which focuses on four key areas:

  • Your Voice Matters: helping young people feel heard and involved in decisions.
  • Great Youth Clubs and Activities: creating safe, welcoming and accessible spaces.
  • Support for Wellbeing: improving access to trusted adults and mental health support.
  • Feeling Safe in Your Community: working together to make neighbourhoods safer.

Alongside these priorities, the strategy also proposes early actions such as strengthening youth voice through the Youth Partnership Board, securing access to clubs and activities, developing digital communication, widening opportunities for young people to access emotional health support and developing the youth workforce.

The council is now asking residents to take part in a short consultation to help check these priorities reflect local needs and to ensure the strategy is shaped by young people and those who support them.

This feedback will help shape the final version going to Cabinet in January.

Councillor Shirley Reynolds, Cabinet Member for Children, Young People, Education, Employment and Skills, said:

“Thank you to every young person who has taken the time to share their views so far. We want young people in Telford and Wrekin to feel supported, listened to and able to shape the services that affect them. Your feedback has helped us shape this strategy and now we want to make sure it reflects what matters most to you, I’d encourage young people, families and professionals to take part in the survey”.
