Residents invited to adoption events
Telford & Wrekin Council is supporting National Adoption Week by encouraging people to attend a series of upcoming information sessions and find out whether adoption could be right for them.
During the week (19 to 25 October) a campaign led locally by Together4Children, will highlight how the everyday moments of family life, from the school run and mealtimes to bedtime stories and simply being there each day, can mean everything to a child waiting for a permanent home.
Together4Children is encouraging anyone who has ever considered adoption to take the first step by attending an information session and learning more about the support available.
Upcoming online information sessions will take place on:
- Tuesday 2 November, 6pm to 7.30pm
- Saturday 21 November, 9am to 10.30am
Councillor Shirley Reynolds, Cabinet Member for Children and Young People, Education, Employment and Skills, said:
"National Adoption Week is an opportunity to highlight the life-changing difference adoption can make for children and families. Many people may have thought about adoption but aren't sure if it's for them. These information sessions are a great way to find out more, ask questions and learn about the support available."
Rachel Brown, Recruitment Manager for Together4Children, said:
"When people think about adoption, it's very easy to focus on the big decision. But being a family is really about thousands of small moments.
"It's making breakfast, finding the missing school shoe, listening when they've had a difficult day, celebrating the little achievements and being the person who is still there tomorrow, and the day after that.
"We know there are people across our region who have thought about adoption, perhaps for some time, but haven't quite felt ready to take that first step. We'd really encourage them to talk to us.
"We're looking for people who can be there for a child. Having a conversation with us doesn't commit you to anything. It is simply an opportunity to find out whether adoption might be right for you."
Together4Children is keen to challenge common misconceptions about adoption and wants people from all backgrounds to come forward. There is no single type of adoptive family, and an initial enquiry is simply an opportunity to explore whether adoption could be part of your future.
