National Offer Day is when parents and carers of children due to start reception, or move from infant to junior school, receive confirmation of their school place for September.

In Telford and Wrekin, 98 percent of children will be offered a place at one of their preferred schools, with 91 percent being offered their first preference.

Telford & Wrekin Council administers school places. This year it received 2,087 applications before the January deadline and offered every child a place.

In total, 1,906 children will be offered a place at their first choice school, 99 applicants at their second choice, 36 applicants at their third choice and 5 at their fourth choice.

A small number of children will be offered a place at an alternative school.

Councillor Shirley Reynolds, Cabinet Member for Children, Young People, Education, Employment and Skills, said:

“Year on year, we are consistently able to offer a majority of parents and carers a place for their child at one of their preferred primary schools, with the vast majority being offered their first preference.

“This is positive news and underlines our continued commitment to protecting, caring for and investing in our services, while increasing school places and widening flexibility and choice for parents and carers.

“In recent years our Council has been investing heavily in schools across the Borough, expanding schools’ capacity by hundreds of places, to ensure every local child and young person can attend a local school and benefit from modern facilities.

“With just a few months to go until children begin their school journey, I’d encourage parents and carers to take a look at our 5 by 5 initiative, which suggests lots of activities for children to try to help them feel ready and confident to start school.”

The council will notify parents and carers by email of their primary school application outcome today (16 April), but they can also view their primary school offer by logging on the Parent Portal.

Parents and carers whose children have an Education, Health, and Care Plan (EHCP) have already been informed of their September school place.
