The project has transformed part of the school's outdoor education space, creating a new area for growing vegetables and supporting the school's environmental and sustainability ambitions.

Designed with future generations in mind, the scheme will enable pupils to learn about food production, recycling and sustainability, including making use of composted food waste to help grow produce that can be used within the school community. The improvements have been delivered through the social value commitments attached to Council contracts, ensuring local projects leave a positive and lasting impact beyond the delivery of core services.

The completed project was celebrated on Friday 16 October at a special event involving pupils from the school's Lawley Environmental Group, recognising the contribution made by Balfour Beatty, its partners and everyone involved in bringing the scheme to life.

Councillor Nathan England, Cabinet Member for Safer Streets and Better Housing Party, said: "This is a fantastic example of how our contracts can deliver real benefits for local communities beyond the work they are commissioned to do.

"The improvements at Lawley Primary School will help pupils learn about sustainability, healthy eating and caring for the environment, while creating a space that can be enjoyed for many years to come.

"I would like to thank Balfour Beatty and everyone involved for creating such a positive legacy for the school."

Carol McQuiggin, Headteacher at Lawley Primary School, said: "We are incredibly grateful to everyone involved in delivering this project. The new growing and outdoor learning space will provide fantastic opportunities for our pupils to develop their understanding of sustainability, food production and environmental responsibility in a hands-on and engaging way.

"Our children are passionate about protecting the environment and caring for their school community, and this project will support that learning for years to come. It has created a wonderful legacy for both current and future pupils, and we are delighted to see it come to life."

The project reflects the Council's commitment to working with partners to deliver social, environmental and economic benefits across the Borough.
