One million and counting for Travel Telford
More than one million journeys have been made on Travel Telford services in just four years, marking a major milestone for the council-run bus service
The achievement highlights the growing popularity of Telford and Wrekin’s Travel Telford buses, which has become a trusted and affordable way for people to travel.
Since launching in 2022, the services have helped thousands of residents, workers, and visitors get to work, school, college, healthcare appointments and shops. It’s built a reputation for providing excellent value for money, with the Council maintaining the lowest single bus fare in the Midlands on its own services for the past four years and one of the lowest fares anywhere in the country.
What started as a single route has grown into six services – the 99, 100, 101, 102, 103 and 104 – connecting communities with key destinations including Telford Town Centre, Wellington, Newport and Princess Royal Hospital.
The milestone comes during another year of improvements for passengers. Telford & Wrekin Council was one of the first councils in the Midlands to extend its flat-fare offer across both Council and Arriva services, helping more people benefit from low-cost travel.
With journey numbers continuing to rise, the one-million mark is a clear sign that people are backing a service that offers simple, affordable and reliable travel while helping connect communities across the borough.
Councillor Ollie Vickers, Cabinet Member for Jobs, Transport & Digital Connectivity, said:
“Reaching one million journeys is a fantastic achievement and shows just how much people value Travel Telford. Our focus has always been to provide a bus service that people can rely on, with simple, affordable fares, and this milestone shows we’re delivering on that promise.
“We know the cost of living continues to put pressure on household budgets, so keeping bus travel affordable is more important than ever. By offering some of the lowest fares in the country, we’re helping people get to work, education, appointments and spend time with family and friends without the cost becoming a barrier.
“Thank you to everyone who has travelled with Travel Telford over the past four years. This milestone belongs to our passengers and we’re excited to continue building on this success.”
With one million passenger journeys now reached, the council remains committed to continuing to improve the network and ensuring public transport remains an attractive, affordable and sustainable option for communities across Telford and Wrekin.
Telford and Wrekin Council remain committed to investing in well-used and valued frontline services, providing free council car parking and £2 bus fares while continuing to maintain the lowest Council Tax in the Midlands.
