A number of Nuplace tenants have picked up the keys to their new homes, just in time for Christmas.

Chrissy and her family are one of three households moving into a new home on The College development in Wellington this week.

The multi-million-pound mixed tenure development is being delivered by Telford & Wrekin Council’s wholly owned housing company, Nuplace Ltd (which offers homes at market rent) and local Housing Association partner, Wrekin Housing Group (which offers homes at affordable rents).

The development for Nuplace offers 20 two and three bedroom quality homes for private rent.

Each property is equipped with solar panels and electric car charging points as part of the council’s commitment to tackle climate change and reduce fuel bills for tenants.

On moving in day, Chrissy comments:

“I’m really excited to be moving into my new home in time for Christmas, it’s going to be a wonderful new start for me and my family.

“The Nuplace team has been kind, helpful and accommodating in the build up to me moving in. They have put me at ease, and I can honestly say it’s been a really positive experience.

“I look forward to making the house our home.”

When complete, the development will also offer an affordable retirement living scheme with 64 apartments and 10 bungalows, delivered by Wrekin Housing Group and a further 28 affordable YMCA apartments within the conversion of a historic listed building retained on the site, providing much needed, affordable homes for local people.

Also this month, tenants moved into the last 12 brand new Nuplace private rent homes on the Wild Walk development off Donnington Wood Way.  The wider scheme sees completion in the summer 2025, when Wrekin Housing Group will open the new affordable extra care and dementia hub.

Councillor Richard Overton (Lab), Telford & Wrekin Council’s Cabinet Member for Homes and Enforcement, said:

“Through our Nuplace company, we are delivering quality private rented homes which people can rent with peace of mind within Telford and Wrekin.

“The College development is the twelfth development in our ambitious plans to grow our private rented housing stock and provide greater choice and long-term security for local people.

“We pride ourselves in the standard of homes we are building, and that we are able to introduce carbon saving measures to reduce the borough’s carbon footprint and bring the cost of energy bills down for our tenants too.

“We’ve got numerous developments underway, with more homes available to rent soon and just a few plots still available for rent on The College site. If people are interested in renting with Nuplace, I’d urge them to keep an eye on the listings page on the website.”

Only four of the 20 private rented homes at The College site remain available to rent.
