Following major earthworks, a new access road, footpaths and car park have now been completed at the site off Waterloo Road, Newdale.

The infrastructure was designed by Telford & Wrekin Council’s Highways and Engineering team and constructed by Balfour Beatty Living Places, supported by specialist sub-contractors.

Essential utilities, drainage systems and a new electrical substation have also been installed to support the development.

Construction has begun on the new 3G artificial grass pitch and the natural grass 9 v 9 football pitch.

These facilities are being delivered by specialist contractors TigerTurf and McArdle Sport Tec.

The project is being supported by funding from the Football Foundation and when complete, the new pitches will provide:

  • Over 80 new hours of playing time for local clubs, of which 46% has been allocated to the development of women and girls football
  • New facilities for five local football clubs.

Councillor Angela McClements, Telford & Wrekin Council’s Cabinet Member for Culture, Tourism and Leisure, said:

“These first-class sports facilities are much needed at Newdale and we’re pleased to see the progress which is being made at the site to bring the project to fruition.

“When complete these facilities will cater for all ages and abilities for generations to come.

“These are exciting times for Newdale and this is all part of our commitment to make Telford and Wrekin a great place to live, work, learn and socialise.”
