The upgrades include 15 new benches, 14 cycle hoops, 23 new bins, 5 recycling bins and 19 hanging baskets on New Street, Walker Street, Market Square, Market Approach and Church Street.

New wayfinding signage, which includes 30 finger posts and six totems with display maps, has also been installed around the town centre.

Telford & Wrekin Council has invested £800,000 towards public realm improvements to change the landscape of Wellington Town Centre - all part of a wider Investing in Telford and Wrekin programme across the Borough.

The project has delivered infrastructure improvements to support sustainable travel, improved footpaths and parking.

As part of the Council’s ongoing investment into roads and footpaths, it has also redeveloped Church Street and works have included widening footpaths, resurfacing the carriageway, replacing all kerbs and installing new drainage to improve the general street scene.

It will make the street safer and more accessible for pedestrians, while still maintaining the carriageway for vehicle use and parking provision.

Councillor Paul Davis, Telford & Wrekin Council’s Cabinet Member for Strong Communities, Local Pride and Veterans, said:

“We’re committed to raising standards in Wellington Town Centre and creating a place that residents, businesses and visitors can be proud of.

“These improvements are about more than enhancing the look and feel of the town centre. They are about creating high-quality, welcoming public spaces that encourage people to spend time in Wellington, support local businesses and help build pride in our town.

“Wellington has a strong identity and an important future.

"These improvements form part of the wider regeneration and public realm programme, helping us to invest in the town, raise its standards and create a better place to live, work, learn, visit and socialise.”
