Music talent showcased in live final
Youngsters from across the Borough recently took to the stage and showcased their musical talents in the grand live final of the Telford Young Music Competition 2026.
The competition, organised by Telford & Wrekin Council’s Music Service, invited children and young people from across the Borough to submit video entries of their performances, either singing or playing an instrument.
Nearly 70 young people applied, up by more than 30 entries compared to last year.
A panel of judges had the difficult job of whittling down the entries to perform at the grand live final, which was held at the Charlton School last week.
There were 21 finalists in total split across three groups – junior, intermediate and senior, with finalists either singing or playing an instrument.
Each finalist performed on stage in front of a captivated audience of family members and friends before the winners were announced. The judge, Steve Pritchard-Jones chose one winning singer and instrumentalist for each group.
The winners were Eleanor Powell (Junior Instrumentalist), Lilly Jones (Junior Vocalist), Ali Chung (Intermediate Instrumentalist), Erin-Mae Goodwin-Samuels (Intermediate Vocalist), Zita Shao (Senior Instrumentalist) and Tallulah Turner (Senior Vocalist).
Councillor Shirley Reynolds, Cabinet Member for Children, Young People, Education, Employment and Skills, said:
“A big thank you to every young person who took part in the competition this year and a massive congratulations to all of the winners.
“The quality of musical talent and stage presence from our young people just gets better year on year.
“I’m proud to say that many of the children who took part in the competition have lessons with our music service, which offers a range of subsidised lessons through local schools and colleges
“Playing a musical is a wonderful skill to have, not only does it allow young people to be creative and learn something new, but through strengthening cognitive and motor skills, it can help with day-to-day learning in school. It’s why it’s one of our 10 by 10 challenges.”
