Moving in day for new tenants at The Gower
It’s moving in day for Nuplace tenants as new homes which are part of a major regeneration project to save a historical building are complete.
Equipped with all the latest mod cons and finished to an exceptionally high standard the new homes for private rent, which have been built at the Gower in St Georges, are ready to move into.
The development, delivered in partnership with Lovell, includes ten two-bedroom new build homes as well as three two-bedroom homes in the converted southern wing of the Grade II listed building, which first opened as a community hospital in 1873.
The central core and northern wing of the building is set to provide a spectacular new community space as well as offices for St Georges and Priorslee Parish Council and are expected to be ready by next summer.
The parish council is currently based within St George’s Primary School, so the move next summer will free up space within the school for the benefit of staff and pupils.
The Gower restoration is one of a number of projects being delivered by the Council’s Investing in Telford and Wrekin programme which aims to make the Borough a better place to live, learn, work and socialise.
Councillor Richard Overton, Telford & Wrekin Council’s Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Highways, Housing and Enforcement, said:
“This is an exciting day and a key milestone in this development. The completion of these homes at the Gower demonstrates our continued commitment to investing in quality housing across Telford and Wrekin.
“Through Nuplace, we're not only meeting private rent housing demand but doing so in a way that adds real value to our communities.
“These thirteen new homes - a mix of sensitively converted heritage properties and modern new builds - represent the kind of thoughtful development our residents deserve.
“This project is part of our wider Investing in Telford and Wrekin programme, which continues to deliver projects that make our Borough a better place for everyone to live and thrive."
Councillor Carolyn Healy, Telford & Wrekin Council’s Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods, Planning and Sustainability, said:
"We’re incredibly proud to deliver a scheme of this quality. The sympathetic restoration of the Gower is saving a historical building, which has stood in the centre of the community since 1873.
“This showcases our commitment to preserving the Borough's architectural heritage whilst creating modern, comfortable homes.
“The careful conversion of this Grade II listed building has retained its original character features, ensuring that future residents will enjoy the unique charm of living in a piece of St Georges history.
“A limited number of homes are still available to rent on this development, so I’d urge people to act quickly to avoid disappointment.”
Stuart Penn, Regional Managing Director at Lovell, said:
“The Gower is an exemplary project that showcases how new build and retrofit can be delivered together, through the right public and private sector partnerships.
“The handover of these homes is a significant milestone that reflects our efforts to ensure the regeneration is in keeping with the listed status, for the benefit of the community and supporting local housing demand in a sustainable way.
“We hope the residents enjoy their new homes and we look forward to working with Nuplace again in the future.”
