Major investment to bring first EGYM to Telford
Residents looking to improve their health, build strength, increase mobility, or simply lead a more active lifestyle are set to benefit from a major investment at Oakengates Leisure Centre.
Telford & Wrekin Leisure has announced a significant refurbishment of the gym, designed to help people of a wide range of ages, abilities and fitness levels achieve their health and wellbeing goals in a welcoming and supportive environment.
The investment will introduce Telford's first EGYM smart strength circuit, alongside a range of new fitness equipment and facility improvements aimed at making exercise easier, more accessible and more enjoyable for residents.
The refurbishment includes:
- An eight-station EGYM smart strength circuit and fitness hub
- Brand-new Freemotion cardio equipment featuring engaging iFIT workouts
- New Freemotion strength and resistance equipment
- A bespoke functional training rig
- New flooring throughout the gym
- Redecoration and wider facility improvements.
The investment is designed to help more people get active, whether they are taking their first steps into fitness, returning to exercise after a break, recovering from illness or injury, managing a long-term health condition, or looking to maintain their strength and independence as they get older.
EGYM takes the guesswork out of using gym equipment by creating personalised training programmes that adapt to individual needs and goals. The technology automatically adjusts equipment settings for each user and tracks progress over time, helping people exercise safely and confidently.
This can be particularly beneficial for those who may feel intimidated by a traditional gym environment or are looking for additional support to improve their strength, mobility, and overall wellbeing.
The refurbishment reflects Telford & Wrekin Council's commitment to supporting healthier lifestyles and helping residents access high-quality leisure facilities within their local communities.
To allow the work to take place, the gym at Oakengates Leisure Centre will temporarily close from Monday 9 November until Sunday 13 December and is scheduled to reopen on Monday 14 December.
During the closure period, customers will still be able to use the swimming pool and fitness classes at Oakengates, as well as other aspirations leisure facilities across the Borough.
Councillor Angela McClements, Telford & Wrekin Council Cabinet Member for Culture, Tourism and Leisure, said: "This investment is about much more than new gym equipment. It's about helping residents improve their health, build confidence, stay active and enjoy the many benefits that regular physical activity can bring."
"We want our leisure centres to support everyone, whether they're new to exercise, returning after illness or injury, managing a health condition, or simply looking to stay fit and healthy."
"The new-look gym at Oakengates will offer a more personalised experience, helping people feel comfortable and supported as they work towards their own goals. We're delighted to be bringing this investment to the community and introducing the first EGYM smart strength circuit in Telford."
The upgraded facility will reopen on Monday 14 December, providing residents with a modern fitness environment designed to help more people move more, feel better and live healthier lives. Find out more on the Telford and Wrekin Leisure website.
