Major bus service upgrades go live today across Telford & Wrekin

Telford & Wrekin Council has today launched a raft of improvements to its council-run bus services, marking a major milestone in its commitment to delivering reliable, accessible, and affordable public transport across the borough.

Published on: 21 July 2025

From today, Monday 21 July, updated timetables and expanded services are now live across key routes including 99a, 99c, 100, 102, 103, and 104 and 105 following extensive community consultation and feedback.

What’s Changing Today

  • 99a & 99c Circular Routes: Now running hourly, restoring dependable links to Shawbirch, Wellington, Hadley, Ketley Bank, and Telford Town Centre.
  • Express 100: Revised timetable improves peak-hour reliability and access to employment zones, healthcare facilities, and transport hubs.
  • 102 & 103 Rural Routes: Now operating every two hours, with Saturday services introduced for the first time.
  • 104 Route: Adjusted to use a designated roadside stop in Ellerdine, improving accessibility for all passengers.

All services continue to offer a flat fare of just £2 per journey, maintaining one of the most affordable public transport options in the UK.

To complement the network upgrades, the Council has been working with Citymapper - the borough’s official journey planning app. Available now via the Apple App Store and Google Play, Citymapper offers:

  • Real-time bus and train arrivals
  • Step-by-step directions across walking, cycling, and public transport
  • Journey planning based on cost, time, or walking distance
  • Full integration with council-run services

Councillor Ollie Vickers, (Lab) Cabinet Member for the Economy & Transport: “Today marks a major step forward for public transport in Telford and Wrekin. These changes are about making everyday journeys easier, more reliable, and better value for money - and with Citymapper now live, residents have smarter tools to plan their travel with confidence.”

Telford & Wrekin Council is one of the few councils in the country that operates its own bus services, investing to keep communities connected while calling on the Government and partners for long-term support.

As part of routine maintenance and contract renewal, buses will also receive a refreshed new look. This practical update will ensure council-operated buses are easy to spot, well-maintained, and aligned with the borough’s commitment to affordable travel.

The new design will help passengers quickly identify the council-run services, which continue to offer one of the lowest single fares in the UK - just £2 per journey.

The updated buses are set to be rolled out later this summer. Until then, passengers may see a mix of vehicle appearances as the transition takes place.

These improvements reflect the Council’s ongoing commitment to listening to residents and acting on their feedback. Over 600,000 passenger journeys have already been recorded across council-run services, with more enhancements planned in the months ahead.
