Major A41 improvement works completed ahead of schedule
Telford & Wrekin Council is pleased to announce the completion of major improvement works on the A41 ahead of schedule, marking the end of a significant two-year infrastructure investment into a key section of one of the borough’s key arterial routes.
The final phase of the works, which began earlier this summer, was completed today (Thursday 14 August), a day earlier than initially planned, and the road has fully reopened to traffic. This milestone completes a comprehensive programme of upgrades to this section of carriageway that began in 2023, aimed at improving road safety, reducing congestion, and future-proofing the route for years to come.
Councillor Richard Overton, Cabinet Member for Highways, Housing and Enforcement, said:
“We’re delighted to confirm that the improvement works on this section of the A41 have been completed ahead of schedule and the road is fully open. This has been a major investment in one of Telford and Wrekin’s most important transport corridors, and we’re proud of the improvements delivered.
“We worked closed with our contractors and the local community to minimise unavoidable road closures, limiting them to set times during weekdays only. The good weather and hard work of our crews means it’s been completed earlier than schedule, meaning we’ve been able to open the road sooner and minimise the impact locally. I want to sincerely thank the local community and road users for bearing with us during the disruption – your patience and understanding have been greatly appreciated. These works will make a real difference to journeys across the borough and support our long-term growth and connectivity.”
The project included resurfacing over 57,000m2 of carriageway, drainage upgrades, and structural improvements to ensure the road remains safe and efficient for all users. It forms part of the council’s wider commitment to investing in infrastructure that supports residents, businesses, and visitors alike.
Telford & Wrekin Council is committed to a wide range of investments and maintaining valued front-line services, whilst continuing to charge the lowest rate of Council Tax in the Midlands and some of the lowest in the country.
