Learn Telford team to host Access to Higher Education progression event
Telford & Wrekin Council’s Learn Telford Team is hosting a progression and information day to help people take a closer look at Access to Higher Education courses and find out if university is the right pathway for them.
The event is taking place at Southwater Library, Southwater One, Telford on Wednesday 21 January 2026 (12 noon - 4pm).
Staff from Learn Telford will be on hand to offer advice and guidance with a particular focus on Access to Higher Education courses in Health and Psychology.
Information will also be available about English and Maths courses, the best progression routes, eligibility for courses and funding support.
Access to Higher Education courses are year-long, part-time courses for adults without A-Levels which enable them to gain university entry, as well as a degree qualification, and build their skills and confidence.
Learn Telford Access courses are online as well as classroom based, take place within school hours, are taught by specialist tutors face to face, including one day face-to-face teaching on Fridays at Bishton Court, and offer in-class university workshops and UCAS support.
Other benefits of the courses include a fully-funded loan which is available subject to eligibility and the loan is paid off on completion of a degree, learners can enter university at year one with no additional foundation year and they also provide an opportunity to make friends.
Councillor Shirley Reynolds, Telford & Wrekin Council’s Cabinet Member for Children, Young People, Education, Employment & Skills, said:
“Access to Higher Education courses are a great way for people to reach their university goal through flexible learning.
“This event aims to help people take a closer look at the courses we offer and weigh up the courses before committing to them.
“There will also be an opportunity for those attending to find out all the other information they need to know.
“Access programmes improve people’s skills, raise aspirations and are a springboard to a very successful career.
“For many of our previous learners, signing up to an Access course was one of the best things they’ve ever done, leading to a degree qualification and a university place which they may not have thought was possible previously.”
