Ironbridge on board with new travel system

In a ground-breaking move for local transport, Telford & Wrekin Council has announced the launch of a new demand-responsive transport (DRT) app that will change travel around the Ironbridge Gorge World Heritage Site.

Available to download today and for booking journeys from Monday, January 27 this innovative service offers a flexible, convenient, and tailored travel solution for both residents and visitors.

The app allows users to plan and book trips based on their specific journey, ensuring easier access to key destinations, including Madeley, the Telford Town Centre as well as across the gorge.

The service is designed to improve mobility by offering flexible pick-up and drop-off locations, tailored to the individual. As well as traditional fixed bus stops, the app will also have virtual stops across a wider area that are shared with the user through the app and based on their location – often resulting in less distance to walk and more convenient pick up and drop off points.

Councillor Ollie Vickers, (Lab) Cabinet Member for the Economy said: “This is an exciting new development, the on demand app brings a level of flexibility that will significantly improve travel for residents and tourists alike.

“We’re keen to invite people along to help us test the app and make sure it works for everyone so if you would like to get involved, please get in touch, we’d love to have real feedback from a range of people.”

How It Works: The app gives users access to real-time travel information, including suggested routes using either the on-demand service or existing public transport - Monday to Friday, from 8am to 5:30pm.

The council is calling for volunteers to help create user guides and people can register their interest by emailing ondemand@telford.gov.uk. Places are limited and the event will be filmed to help others understand how the app works.

The launch is a pilot program that, if successful, will be rolled out to other areas in Telford & Wrekin. The council is improving public transport options, making travel more accessible and efficient for everyone.

The app is available for download from both the Apple App Store and Google Play
