Investment in leisure technology expands fitness opportunities across Telford and Wrekin
Telford & Wrekin Council continues to invest in modern leisure facilities with the introduction of innovative virtual aquatic fitness classes at two of its leisure centres.
Building on the success of its virtual fitness studio programme, Telford & Wrekin Council's Leisure Services has expanded its digital fitness offer into the pool environment with the launch of Hydrohex at Newport Swimming and Fitness Centre and Oakengates Leisure Centre.
The investment forms part of the Council's ongoing commitment to enhancing leisure facilities, providing residents with greater choice, flexibility and access to activities that support healthier, more active lifestyles.
New virtual poolside systems have been installed at both centres, allowing customers to take part in recorded virtual instructor-led aquatic fitness classes delivered via large screens positioned alongside the swimming pools.
The new technology brings Hydrohex, a leading virtual aquatic fitness programme, to local customers, offering engaging water-based workouts that cater for a wide range of ages, abilities and fitness levels. Customers can now enjoy both Hydrohex and Hydrohex Move Low Impact classes.
Hydrohex delivers an energising full-body workout that uses the natural resistance of water to improve cardiovascular fitness, strength and overall wellbeing. Meanwhile, Hydrohex Move Low Impact provides a gentler option for those new to exercise, older adults, or anyone looking to improve fitness, mobility and core strength in a supportive environment.
Exercising in water offers several benefits, including reduced impact on joints and increased support through buoyancy, making it an accessible and effective way for more people to stay active.
Angela McClements, Cabinet Member for Culture, Tourism and Leisure at Telford & Wrekin Council, said: "We are committed to investing in our leisure facilities and embracing innovative technology that helps more people enjoy the benefits of being active.
"The introduction of Hydrohex is another example of how we are continuing to develop our leisure offer, giving residents access to modern, flexible and inclusive fitness opportunities. Whether someone is looking for a high-energy workout or taking their first steps towards a healthier lifestyle, these new classes provide a fun and accessible way to get active."
The latest investment reinforces Telford & Wrekin Council's commitment to continually improving its leisure services and ensuring residents have access to high-quality facilities, activities and experiences that support health and wellbeing across the Borough.
