Housing Management Board ensures standards continue to be met
Telford & Wrekin Council is continuing to ensure that standards are met in properties it owns and manages across the Borough through a Housing Management Board formed last year
The Board is made up of the Council’s Cabinet members and senior officers and ensures properties are complying with housing sector regulations which are increasing.
Today (Thurs) the Council welcomed work which has been carried out since the Housing Management Board was established in 2024.
As a registered provider of social housing, The Council manages a number of properties across the Borough, including supported and specialist housing and housing to accommodate the homeless, and has also bought properties through a number of schemes to meet gaps within the housing market locally.
The Housing Management Board has strengthened the Council’s strategic oversight of housing services, ensuring they align with new social housing regulations which were introduced just before the board was formed.
The Council also undertakes an annual survey to ensure the best service for tenants even though registered providers of social housing with fewer than 1,000 properties are only required to carry out these surveys once every two years.
As a result of the survey, In Telford and Wrekin 82% of tenants say they are satisfied with the Council’s service compared with the national average of 71.8% and 91% of tenants said they feel safe in their home.
Councillor Richard Overton, Telford & Wrekin Council’s Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Highways, Housing and Enforcement, said:
“We welcome the work of the Housing Management Board which oversees the Council’s responsibilities as a registered
provider of housing and as the Local Housing Authority to ensure we are providing the best possible service for our tenants.
“The Council is committed to ensuring that all properties for which it has direct responsibility are
managed to the same, regulated, high quality standards and provide a consistent, tenant experience.”
