Launching this summer, the campaign encourages children to read eight books and collect a stamp for each book on a special Holiday Reading Collector’s Card, available from any library across the Borough.

From picture books and early readers to chapter books and audiobooks, children can choose stories they enjoy and complete the challenge at their own pace. Each completed book earns a stamp, and children who collect all eight will receive a certificate celebrating their reading achievement.

Councillor Shirley Reynolds, Telford & Wrekin Council’s Cabinet Member for Children, Young People, Education, Employment and Skills, said:

“The Holiday Reading Challenge is a brilliant way to help children keep up their reading skills over the holidays while having fun.

“Reading is the gateway to discovery for young people, so our six-week summer reading challenge aims to show children that reading can be fun, magical and ran opportunity for them to read a variety of books firing their imagination. We want to encourage children to visit their local libraries, explore what’s on offer and complete their six-week reading challenge.

“Visiting a library is also one of the ten important activities we believe all children in Telford and Wrekin should take part in before they reach the age of ten. So, whether your child is discovering the library for the first time, or already a regular visitor, this challenge helps families take part in 10 by 10 at the same time.”

It’s free, inclusive, and all about encouraging children to enjoy books and feel proud of what they achieve.

Parents and carers are encouraged to join in by sharing stories, visiting their local library regularly, and helping children track their progress using the collector’s card.

The campaign runs throughout the summer holidays, with sign‑up available from early July. There is no cost to take part, and children of all reading abilities are welcome.
