The Telford and Wrekin Play For All Strategy 2026–2036 sets out a ten-year approach to creating inclusive, accessible and high-quality opportunities for outdoor play and recreation across the Borough.

At the heart of the strategy is “Play for All”, recognising that play and recreation are important for everyone‘s Health and Wellbeing, regardless of age, ability or gender.

The draft strategy has been shaped by feedback gathered from children, young people, residents, community groups and other stakeholders over the past two years.

Residents said they wanted more varied, inclusive and flexible play spaces, including better provision for disabled people, older children and teenagers, more natural and sensory play, safe social spaces and opportunities for communities to help shape their local provision.

The Council is now asking residents to look at the draft strategy and share their views before it is finalised.

Councillor Carolyn Healy, Telford & Wrekin Council’s Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods, Planning and Sustainability, said: “We’ve already heard from children, young people, families and communities about what they value in our play spaces and what they would like to see improved, and that feedback has played an important part in shaping this draft strategy.

“Our ambition is Play for All. That means thinking beyond traditional playgrounds and looking at how we can create welcoming, inclusive and enjoyable opportunities for people of different ages and abilities to play, be active and spend time outdoors.

“Now we want our residents to take a look at what we’re proposing and tell us whether we’ve got it right. Your feedback will help us shape the final strategy and our approach to play across Telford and Wrekin over the next ten years.”

The draft strategy proposes a Borough-wide approach to play, including a greater variety of formal and informal opportunities, natural and sensory play, accessible and inclusive spaces, opportunities for different generations to use spaces together and greater community involvement in their design.

It will also provide a framework for planning, improving and maintaining play spaces and help guide future priorities and investment across Telford and Wrekin.

Feedback received during the six-week consultation will be considered and reflected in the final Play For All Strategy, which will be taken to Telford & Wrekin Council’s Cabinet in the New Year.
