Help shape the future of accessible bus travel in Telford and Wrekin

Telford & Wrekin Council is inviting residents to share their experiences of travelling by bus and help shape plans to make bus services more accessible and inclusive.

A four-week public consultation has launched today (Monday 2 November), giving people the opportunity to highlight the challenges they face when travelling by bus and suggest what could make journeys easier.

The consultation will help inform the Council’s Bus Network Accessibility Plan, which aims to identify the challenges people face when travelling by bus and explore ways to make journeys easier for everyone.

The Council wants to hear from people who regularly use buses, as well as those who find it difficult to travel by bus or are unable to use the services. This includes disabled people, older residents, people with limited mobility and anyone who has experienced challenges when using public transport.

The online consultation, supported by in-person drop-in sessions, is an opportunity for people to share their views and ideas to help guide the Council’s work and ensure that future plans reflect the needs of the whole community.

Councillor Ollie Vickers, Cabinet Member for Jobs, Transport & Digital Connectivity, said:

“Being able to get around easily and independently is important for everyone, from travelling to work and attending appointments to visiting family and friends or simply getting out and about.

“With bus fares at just £2 for adults and £1 for under 19s, we’re helping to make bus travel more affordable, but we know travelling by bus isn’t always easy for everyone, and some people face challenges that can make journeys difficult or stop them from using buses altogether.

“We want to hear directly from people about their experiences, what’s working well and what could be improved. It’s important that we understand the barriers people face so we can make informed decisions about how to improve accessibility across our bus services.

“Every voice matters, and I would encourage people who use buses regularly, occasionally or would like to use them but face difficulties to take part. Your feedback will help us shape bus services that work better for everyone.”

Alongside the online survey, the Council will be holding drop-in sessions, giving people the opportunity to speak directly to the team and share their views in person.

The sessions will take place on:

  • Thursday 5 November, 11am to 1pm – Southwater Library, ground floor.
  • Friday 20 November, 11am to 1pm – Autism Hub information drop-in, Family Zone, Suites 12 and 15, Second Floor, Hazledine House, Telford Centre, TF3 4JL.
  • Tuesday 24 November, 11am to 1pm – Southwater Library, ground floor.

Alternatively, paper copies of the survey are available at libraries and parish councils, with a freepost address provided for completed surveys.

Feedback gathered through the consultation will help shape the Bus Network Accessibility Plan and inform future priorities for improving the bus services.

The consultation opens today, Monday 2 November and runs until Monday 30 November 2026. Have your say by completing the online survey.
