Local veterans and their families can honour their service and dedication on Telford’s Veteran Trail for free or at a reduced cost, thanks to a £2,950 donation from Telford & Wrekin Council.

Telford’s Veteran Trail, next to the War Memorial in Telford Town Park, commemorates and celebrates local service men and women and provides a lasting tribute for veterans, serving forces, their families and their loved ones through a series of personalised plaques.

Usually, commemorative plaques are priced at £295, with 10% of all proceeds donated to local armed forces charities, but thanks to a donation of £2,950 from Telford & Wrekin Council, Telford’s Veteran Trail is offering five free plaques, plus a further 10 reduced price plaques for people who would otherwise not be able to afford one.

Applicants for Telford’s Veteran Trail plaque should email info@telfordsveterantrail.co.uk with a short paragraph about why their nominee should be selected, along with a photograph and the veteran’s service details. All applications will then be considered by Veteran Trail committee.

Councillor Paul Davis, Telford & Wrekin Council’s Cabinet Member for Strong Communities, Local Pride and Veterans, said: “Telford & Wrekin Council has made a long-standing commitment to support those in our Borough with an armed forces connection, whether a veteran, serving personnel or family members, so it is particularly fitting to be able to announce this during national Armed Forces Week.

“We’re proud to make this donation to Telford’s Veteran Trail, to help build a lasting tribute to those who have served or are currently serving. Whether you want to commemorate a veteran’s service, celebrate serving personnel or give a gift for someone retiring from the armed forces, a plaque on Telford’s Veteran Trail is a permanent celebration for family and friends.”

Erica Hanson, Chair of Telford’s Veteran Trail, added: “Telford’s Veteran Trail was created to honour those who have served our country, and we are delighted that this funding will allow us to support veterans and their families who may otherwise be unable to purchase a plaque.”
