Think Urban Games is just football?

While football and traditional sports remain a popular part of Urban Games, the programme has built a reputation for introducing young people to activities they may never have considered trying before.

This year, specialist organisations including Wrekin Flyers BMX Club, Spotfest Pro Wrestling and Telford Bike Hub will once again bring their expertise into neighbourhood parks, MUGAs and community spaces, helping young people build confidence, develop skills and discover new interests close to home.

Delivered by Telford & Wrekin Council's Building Safer & Stronger Communities Team, Urban Games provides free activities for children and young people aged 0-16, with no need to book.

From learning BMX techniques and developing bike-handling skills to understanding the athleticism, discipline and fitness behind professional wrestling, sessions are designed to be inclusive, welcoming and suitable for all abilities.

In addition to coaching and activities, Telford Bike Hub will deliver Dr Bike sessions, offering free bike checks and repairs while encouraging young people to get active and make the most of local parks, open spaces and cycling routes.

Councillor Paul Davis, Cabinet Member for Strong Communities, Local Pride and Veterans, said: "What makes Urban Games so special is the range of opportunities available to young people.

"Not every child wants to play football and that's why it's important we work with organisations that can introduce young people to something new and exciting.

"Whether it's learning BMX skills, getting a bike repaired or stepping into a wrestling session for the first time, these activities provide opportunities to build confidence, learn from experts and have fun in a safe and welcoming environment.

"Through Urban Games we're supporting our commitment to creating cleaner, greener and safer communities while ensuring young people have access to positive activities right on their doorstep."

Representatives from Wrekin Flyers BMX Club, Spotfest Pro Wrestling and Telford Bike Hub will be delivering sessions throughout the programme, giving young people the opportunity to work alongside experienced instructors and discover activities that could become lifelong hobbies.

Urban Games starts on 26 October and is free to attend for children and young people aged 0-16. Activities take place in parks, MUGAs and community spaces across Telford and Wrekin, with no advance booking required.
