Free training to help fitness leaders make sessions more inclusive
Fitness instructors, coaches and activity leaders across Telford and Wrekin are being invited to take part in free online training sessions this September and October, aimed at making sessions more inclusive and accessible for everyone.
The training is part of the Move to Thrive project, which is supporting people living with dementia and their carers to stay active. It also seeks to give local instructors the tools and confidence to adapt their classes for a wider range of needs, including neurodiversity, learning disabilities and other conditions.
By joining the sessions, instructors will learn practical strategies for making their classes more inclusive, build confidence in supporting people with additional needs and take away ideas they can apply straight away. Each participant will also receive a free attendance certificate which can count towards Continuing Professional Development (CPD) or re-accreditation.
Councillor Kelly Middleton, Cabinet Member for Public Health and Healthier Communities said:
“We want to ensure that everyone in Telford and Wrekin has the opportunity to take part in physical activity regardless of age, health or additional needs. This free training gives our brilliant local instructors the knowledge, skills and confidence to make their sessions welcoming and inclusive for all.”
Three free live, online sessions are available to choose from:
Saturday 20 September, 2pm–3.30pm
Friday 26 September, 10am–11.30am
Wednesday 1 October, 6.30pm–8pm
