Free February fun with Urban Games - starts Monday, February 16
There’s no need to book - just turn up and get involved. All sessions are completely free, and children up to age 16 (including toddlers and babies) can enjoy something to keep them active and entertained.
The Urban Games offers fun, safe and low‑cost ways for young people to stay active while trying something new. Parents can also feel assured that all activities are supervised.
If you like racquet sport, there’s padel, pickleball and tennis and the Sky Reach climbing wall and free‑fall experiences will be open throughout the week in the town park along with Dr Bike. If you have a bike that’s been sat in the garden or shed and needs some TLC, bring it along to Telford Bike Hub and our qualified mechanics will check it for roadworthiness, make minor repairs, fix punctures and advise on anything needed to get you riding smoothly again.
It’s a great chance to restore your bike to its former glory. No need to book – just turn up with your bike.
For anyone looking for even more activity, multisport sessions - including football, basketball, dodgeball and badminton - will be running in playgrounds across the borough including Woodside, Arleston the Telford Town Park, Norbroom Park and Sutton Hill.
Younger children can join outdoor Wild Telford sessions, with nature‑themed trails, bug hunts and treasure hunts led by the Shropshire Wildlife Trust across local nature reserves.
Councillor Paul Davis, Cabinet Member for Communities & Civic Pride and lead for the Armed Forces Covenant, said: “It might not be the Winter Olympics, but it’s still a fantastic way for children and young people to get active, try something new and enjoy time together this half‑term. With everything from climbing and nature trails to football and netball, there really is something for everyone. All this also supports our ambition to make Telford and Wrekin a truly child‑friendly Borough, where every child and young person is healthy, safe and able to reach their full potential.”
Councillor Shirley Reynolds, Cabinet Member for Children, Young People, Education, Employment & Skills said: “These amazing free activities complement our 10 by 10 initiative, fostering a sense of curiosity, confidence, and community in our children. These experiences are crucial in helping children develop essential life skills and broaden their horizons. We are committed to ensuring that every child in Telford and Wrekin can participate in these enriching activities.”
Young people can also check out the Council’s Youth Offer this half term here. This is an online hub that makes it easy to find fun, safe and inclusive activities, support and opportunities across Telford & Wrekin, all shaped with young people in mind.
The Urban Games is funded through the council’s Building Safer and Stronger Communities programme. If you have an idea for a project in your area, or want to learn more about the Building Safer and Stronger Communities programme, email saferstronger@telford.gov.uk.
