Free bus travel for under-16s this August
Families across Telford and Wrekin will be able to enjoy more affordable days out this summer following the Government's announcement that children aged five to 15 can travel for free throughout August.
The Council has welcomed the announcement, which will help families with the cost of living during the school holidays and make it easier for children and young people to get to activities, visit friends and family, and make the most of the summer without the extra cost of travel.
From 1 to 31 August, children aged five to 15 will be able to travel for free on council-run buses and Arriva services. Children under five still travel free. The free scheme also includes the On Demand service, a flexible bus service helping people travel around Ironbridge, Longdon-on-Tern, Horsehay and Lightmoor, with connections to Telford Central Station, Princess Royal Hospital, Madely and more.
No registration or application is needed. Eligible children can simply board and travel for free throughout August.
The announcement builds on Telford & Wrekin Council’s commitment to leading the way on affordable public transport. Earlier this year, the council extended its £2 adult and £1 under-19 fare to Arriva services, making it one of the first councils in the Midlands where people are already benefiting from some of the lowest bus fares in the country.
