Food business prosecuted following customer complaint
Telford & Wrekin Council has successfully prosecuted a food business after an investigation into a complaint of undercooked chicken being served to a customer.
At Telford Magistrates' Court on 24 September 2026, Emma's Grill House, based in Oakengates, was sentenced following a prosecution brought by the Council’s Health Protection Team.
The case related to a complaint received by the Council from a member of the public who reported being served raw chicken at the premises. Following an investigation by Environmental Health officers, legal proceedings were initiated.
The court heard details of the case before imposing a sentence of a £300 fine along with £2500 costs and a victim surcharge of £120.
A spokesperson for Telford & Wrekin Council said: "Food businesses have a legal responsibility to ensure the food they serve is safe to eat. We take all complaints relating to food safety seriously and will not hesitate to take enforcement action where standards fall below those required to protect the public."
