Find and Fix It: Thousands of road signs cleaned as Council gears up for winter
Thousands of road signs have been cleaned across the Borough as part of the Council's ongoing Find and Fix It programme, improving visibility for road users as darker days approach.
Teams have been identifying and resolving a wide range of issues reported by residents and spotted through routine inspections, ensuring problems are fixed quickly and efficiently.
A particular focus this month has been the cleaning of road signs across the Borough. Work has now been completed in Haygate & Park and Ketley, with teams currently working in Arleston College. So far, the programme has cleaned around the Borough, across 1,000 roads and 7,000 signs helping to improve visibility for motorists, cyclists and pedestrians.
Keeping signs clean is particularly important as the Borough heads into the autumn and winter months, when shorter daylight hours, poor weather and lower visibility can make navigation more challenging. Clear, visible signs help road users travel safely and confidently around Telford and Wrekin.
The sign cleaning programme forms part of the Council's wider commitment to proactively identify issues and make improvements before they become bigger problems.
Councillor Nathan England, Cabinet Member for Safer Streets and Better Housing, said: "Our Find and Fix It programme is all about taking a proactive approach to maintaining our Borough and tackling issues that matter to residents.
"Working alongside our partners at Balfour Beatty, we're continually identifying areas that need attention and making improvements that help keep our communities safe, clean and accessible.
"While road sign cleaning may seem like a small task, it makes a real difference, particularly as we head into the winter months when visibility can be reduced by darker mornings, evenings and adverse weather conditions.
"We're committed to keeping Telford and Wrekin moving and would encourage residents to continue reporting issues they spot so that we can investigate and take action where needed."
Residents can help support the Find and Fix It programme by reporting highways and environmental issues through the Council's online reporting service at www.telford.gov.uk/report.
Anyone reporting an issue should provide as much detail as possible, including the location and, where possible, photographs to help officers investigate and resolve problems quickly.
Through Find and Fix It, the Council and Balfour Beatty will continue to work together to identify issues across the Borough and deliver improvements that make a difference to local communities every day.
The work is delivered by the Council investing £91 million in its highways and transport infrastructure over four years, maintaining and improving roads, footways, bridges, drainage systems, street lighting and other key assets across the Borough. This long-term approach has helped Telford & Wrekin Council consistently achieve some of the highest resident satisfaction ratings for highways and transport services both regionally and nationally.
