Final phase of major A41 improvement works beginning soon
Starting on Monday, 4 August 2025, Telford & Wrekin Council will be carrying out the fourth and final phase of a major upgrade to the A41.
The work being carried out between Forton Roundabout and Sambrook crossroads is the final stage of works on the busy A41 route into the borough, and involves more than 8,500m2 of resurfacing along with other improvements including the replacement drain grates and refreshing road markings and reflective studs.
To reduce disruption, the project is being delivered during the school holidays using daytime road closures on weekdays only, with the road reopened each night and fully at weekends to further reduce inconvenience.
The A41 between Forton Roundabout and Sambrook crossroads will be closed:
- Monday 4 August to Friday 8 August, between 7am and 4pm
- Monday 11 August to Friday 15 August, between 7am and 4pm
The improvement work is scheduled to be completed within the planned period, but all times and dates are weather dependent.
During the closure periods the diversion via the A53, the A442 and the A518 will be clearly signposted and signs giving advanced warning of the closure have been in place for several weeks. Local residents, businesses and other stakeholders have also been given advanced notice, and access will be maintained across the A41 in two locations throughout the closures.
Councillor Richard Overton, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Highways, Housing & Enforcement (Lab), said:
"We’re now entering the final stretch of a major investment into one of our borough’s busiest routes. This last phase of the A41 upgrade reflects our commitment to improving infrastructure while listening to the needs of our residents and road users.
“We’ve listened to residents and directly engaged with the local community ahead of this closure and are implementing additional measures as a result, to minimise the inconvenience caused.
“By scheduling the work during school holidays and limiting closures to weekdays, we’re doing everything we can to keep disruption to a minimum. Once complete, these improvements will make journeys safer, smoother and more reliable for everyone who travels this route. We appreciate the community’s patience and cooperation as we bring this important project to a close."
The improvement work is scheduled to be completed within the planned period, but all times and dates are weather dependent.
This four-phase project started in 2023 and is part of a wider plan to improve roads, support local growth, and make travel safer and easier across the borough.
Telford & Wrekin Council is committed to a wide range of investments and maintaining valued front-line services, whilst continuing to charge the lowest rate of Council Tax in the Midlands and some of the lowest in the country.
