This voluntary role (with an allowance for attending Board meetings) will be central to driving long‑term renewal, strengthening local communities, improving facilities and ensuring residents have a stronger voice in decisions about their neighbourhoods.

The programme is backed by £20 million of Government funding, with the Council adding a further £10 million, creating a significant and sustained investment in South Telford.

Councillor Lee Carter, Leader of Telford & Wrekin Council, said: “We’re urging people who truly care about South Telford to come forward. If you’re passionate about our communities and driven to make a real, lasting difference, please get in touch. The decisions we make now will shape opportunities, pride and well-being for generations to come.”

Shaun Davies, MP for Telford, added: “This investment is now gathering real momentum and the Chair role is a crucial next step. We’ve been encouraged by the ideas residents have been sharing, and this role will help turn those ideas into action. This is a great opportunity for someone to help deliver real change for South Telford.”

Woodside is one of the first areas in the UK selected for the Government’s Pride in Place programme, focused on strengthening communities, improving public spaces and giving residents greater influence over local priorities.

Once appointed, the Chair will help establish the full Neighbourhood Board, bringing together residents, councillors, the local MP, community organisations, schools, health partners and local businesses.

Key responsibilities

  • Chair and lead Board meetings
  • Ensure residents’ voices shape all decisions
  • Work with partners to co‑design the 10‑year Pride in Place Plan
  • Oversee early projects that deliver visible improvements
  • Help establish long‑term community leadership and funding arrangements
