This year is extra special as we mark the 40th anniversary of the Ironbridge Gorge being designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1986.

Hosted as part of the annual celebration, the workshops give families the opportunity to design and decorate their own lanterns before joining hundreds of participants at the spectacular parade on Sunday 29 November. The parade will begin at 6pm, creating a beautiful display of light through Dale End Park, Ironbridge Gorge as we celebrate the spirit of Telford.

With the first workshops taking place next week, organisers are urging families to book now and secure their place.

Designed for families with children aged five and over, the workshops offer a fun and affordable way to get involved in one of Telford's most colourful community events. Children must be accompanied by an adult, with families working together to create their lanterns.

Once completed, lanterns will be stored by the organisers and returned in time for participants to carry them during the parade.

Councillor Angela McClements, Telford & Wrekin Council Cabinet Member for Culture, Tourism and Leisure, said: "The Telford Lantern Parade is a fantastic community event that brings people together to celebrate creativity, culture and community spirit. These workshops are a wonderful opportunity for families to spend time together, get creative and become part of a memorable parade that lights up the town. We encourage people to book early and join us for this special celebration."

Each workshop lasts approximately 2.5 hours, and all materials are provided. Activities involve glue and other craft materials, so suitable clothing is recommended. Aprons will be available.

Workshop places cost just £3 per child.
